Professional Photography for a Melbourne Haematology & Oncology Clinic

An established haematology and oncology clinic in Melbourne's north was redesigning its website and needed a fresh, cohesive set of photography to carry the new brand - warm, credible and unmistakably human. MMP studio delivered the whole library in a single three-hour on-site session.

The finished homepage · 10 clinicians · one 3-hour session · one complete library

The challenge

The practice was rebuilding its website and wanted photography to match - one cohesive set made for the new design, rather than images gathered piecemeal over time. Patients arriving at a blood or cancer clinic are often facing an unexpected diagnosis, and the imagery a practice leads with sets the tone before a word is read. That called for warm, authentic photographs of the real team, shot in one consistent visual language.

The harder part was logistics:

  • Around ten specialists whose diaries rarely align.

  • No communications manager - the in-house coordinator a hospital has, but a private practice usually doesn't.

  • One short window for portraits, team shots, medicine-in-action and environment, on location in a working hospital, without disrupting patient care.

The brief

A three-hour on-site session at $1,600, booked alongside the practice's website partner, Medsolve. Deliverables:

  • An individual portrait for every clinician

  • Full-team and sub-team group photos

  • Medicine-in-action - results review, clinical exam, treatment chair

  • Consulting rooms, reception and building exterior

  • Full editing and delivery, with the practice owning every file

Individual portraits, shot on one consistent background so they sit together as a single considered set on the team page.

Co-ordination before the day

The real problem wasn't the photography - it was getting a busy specialist team through it with no in-house organiser. So the work happened before the day:

  • A light prep system replaced the missing coordinator - a guide on what to wear, a running order shared in advance, and an early ask for a staff stand-in, so no real patient was ever involved.

  • A plain, consistent backdrop for the portraits, so all ten would sit together as one set on the team page - while the medicine-in-action and room shots were made in the clinic's own spaces, where authenticity matters more.

  • Arriving ~45 minutes early to scout the rooms, set the lighting and brief the practice lead in person - the single biggest reason the session then ran on time.

How the three hours ran

Saturday, chosen so the working clinic wasn't disrupted, at Northern Private Hospital in Epping:

  • ~45 min setup & briefing before the team arrived

  • Group & sub-team shots first, so people could leave once photographed

  • Individual portraits - a few minutes each

  • Medicine-in-action - results review, exam, and the treatment chair on a separate level

  • Environment & exterior - rooms, reception and the building

No real patients were photographed; every clinical scene used a willing staff stand-in.

The results

A complete, cohesive library delivered via a private gallery, files named per person, full ownership. How the practice put it to use:

  • The team portrait leads the site and is its social-share image - the most-seen photo in the brand.

  • The individual portraits fill every clinician's profile page.

  • The medicine-in-action scenes carry the service pages, giving the site the feel of a real practice.

  • The environment and exterior frames ground the practice in a real place.

  • The warmer, candid frames proved to be the ones they reached for most.

Why it worked

  • Arriving early paid for itself - 45 minutes of setup made the shooting fast and consistent.

  • A prep system replaced the missing coordinator.

  • A generous range let the practice choose the warmest, most human frames.

  • Knowing clinical spaces kept the session unobtrusive and private.

  • Efficiency never cost the team - quick in, quick out.

Who this is for

For medical practitioners - Being photographed mid-week is uncomfortable; this session was built to put clinicians at ease and move them through in minutes. The result is portraits where each person looks like themselves at their most approachable - the version a nervous patient hopes to meet.

For healthcare marketing managers - One three-hour visit, one cohesive library ready for web, social and print, without derailing the clinic. Coordinating a large team with no in-house organiser is exactly what MMP studio handles, so the images arrive complete and on schedule.

For medical marketing consultants - Your strategy is only as good as the photography carrying it. MMP studio understands medical positioning and delivers premium, human imagery on brief and on time - a dependable partner behind the scenes for your referral network.

For brand & web designers - Photography that arrives ready to design with: portraits on a clean backdrop for the team grid, in-context frames with room to crop, and a warm feel that lifts a layout. Shot knowing exactly where each image is going.
