Inside the Labs: Microbiology Research at La Trobe

Both of our images featured on the cover of the Honours Info Booklet

When La Trobe University's Microbiology department needed to showcase their cutting-edge facilities and research work, they turned to MMP Studio for our expertise in scientific photography.

Working with the DNA sequencer in the microbiology research lab

The shoot was in teaching and research environments, from students using microscopes in practical sessions to researchers working with DNA sequencers and biohazard hoods. Each location required different approaches, balancing the need for clear, technically accurate documentation with the human element of scientific discovery.

Working closely with Steve Petrovski and his team, we developed a shooting strategy that would minimise disruption to sensitive lab work while capturing authentic moments of scientific investigation. This meant carefully timing our shots around active experiments and coordinating with staff to ensure all safety protocols were maintained.

In the teaching labs, we focused on capturing student-teacher interactions and hands-on learning experiences. Moving to the research facilities, our attention shifted to documenting the sophisticated equipment and precise techniques used in advanced microbiology research, including work in biohazard hoods and with DNA sequencing technology.

Safety First: Precise work in the biohazard hood

The images have featured across various platforms to showcase the university's facilities and attract both students and research partners.
