A Remarkable Recovery for Critical Care Appeal

The Alfred Foundation invited MMP Studio to document Kendall Dickinson's inspiring recovery story for their Critical Care Appeal, aiming to raise funds for a new CT scanner in the trauma unit.

Triumph Over Adversity: Kendall's radiant smile reflects her incredible journey, 2 months on

The challenge was to capture high-quality images of Kendall revisiting the trauma unit while working around her limited mobility, respecting patient privacy, and maximising the brief time with key medical staff.

A nurse sees Kendall for the first time since leaving the her care

We adopted a flexible, documentary-style approach, using portable equipment to work efficiently in various hospital settings. We focused on capturing authentic moments of Kendall's reunion with her care team and the emotion behind her remarkable recovery.

Photo: We managed to snag a quick snap of the big wigs running the busiest Trauma Service in our neck of the woods. From left to right, we've got the head honcho Professor Mark Fitzgerald, his right-hand man Carl Luckhoff, and the brilliant Associate Professor Joseph Mathew. These top docs keep the largest Trauma Service in Australasia ticking. It's not every day you get this crew in one frame!

The 1.5-hour shoot covered multiple locations, including the ward where Kendall was treated, the trauma unit, the proposed CT scanner location, and outdoor portraits. We worked quickly to capture group photos with nurses and directors while minimising disruption to hospital operations.

Kendall was especially impressed by both the skill & warmth of Joseph Mathew who played a role in saving her life.

The photos have been used extensively in The Alfred Foundation's Critical Care Appeal campaign, communicating Kendall's story and the need for the new CT scanner. The images are being used across various marketing materials and will support a 12-month campaign.

A team of life-savers: The trauma unit that played a crucial role in Kendall's survival

This project shows how MMP Studio can roll with it in tricky hospital settings. We have a knack for capturing those powerful, heartfelt moments that make a real difference in fundraising efforts. It's all about being flexible, respectful, and quick on our feet. We're proud of our ability to tell visual stories that not only respect the sensitive nature of healthcare settings but also drive home the importance of these critical fundraising campaigns. It's challenging work, but it's incredibly rewarding to see how our images can make such a positive impact.
