Kendall's Comeback at The Alfred

Hello there! Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to photograph a remarkable young woman's return to The Alfred Hospital. Kendall, who came to Australia for some equestrian adventures, found herself in a life-threatening accident. But thanks to the amazing team at The Alfred, she made a recovery that left everyone astounded. The Alfred Foundation needed powerful images to support their fundraising efforts for a new CT scanner.

Our day kicked off in the ward where Kendall was treated. Imagine the scene: a cocktail of tears, hugs, and laughter as Kendall reunited with the nurses who cared for her.

Next, we whisked down to the trauma unit. Now, photographing in a busy hospital is a bit like trying to capture a butterfly in flight - you've got to be quick, quiet, and incredibly careful not to disturb the delicate ecosystem around you. But the trauma team were absolute stars, taking time out of their hectic schedules to be in the photos.

One of my favourite moments? Snapping a photo of Kendall with the trauma unit directors. Getting these folks in front of the camera together is about as rare as finding a parking spot right outside the hospital entrance.

We wrapped up the shoot with some portraits of Kendall in the hospital garden. Seeing her radiant smile and hearing her laugh, you'd never guess the ordeal she'd been through. It was a powerful reminder of the incredible work The Alfred does every day.

The photos have been a hit with The Alfred Foundation. They're using them in their Critical Care Appeal, and I've heard the response has been fantastic. One of the team even said, "Those images are incredible, you captured the feeling so well."

Days like this remind me why I love healthcare photography. It's not just about taking pretty pictures – it's about telling stories that matter, stories that can make a real difference. And if those stories can help raise funds for life-saving equipment? Well, that's just the icing on the cake.
